Sullivan Ballou Letter

Sullivan Ballou was a soldier in the Civil War, a major from Rhode Island. He wrote to his wife shortly before the First Battle of Bull Run (Manassas), having a premonition that he would die in that battle. Today, July 29, is the anniversary of his death.

He is most famous for the letter he wrote to his wife shortly before his death. It expresses his feelings of love for his wife and family as well as his love of his country. No one can read his letter without being moved by it.
