First Maryland Constitutional Convention

On this day (Aug 14) in 1776, six weeks after the U.S. Declaration of Independence, a Constitutional Convention in Maryland convened. Three months later they produced the first Maryland Constitution. Its first section said: "That all government of right originates from the people, is founded in compact only, and instituted solely for the good of the whole."
